| What
is an Infrared Sauna?
While traditional saunas, sweat lodges, and steam
showers provide such benefits, they typically
operate at uncomfortably hot temperatures, sometimes
in excess of 180F, thus making them difficult
to tolerate for anything more than a few minutes.
This is particularly true for the elderly or those
with asthma or other breathing or cardiovascular
problems who could otherwise benefit the most
from sauna heat therapy.
Far-infrared saunas offer the solution. They operate
at far lower temperatures, usually in the range
of 110 to 130F, yet still offer all of the benefits
of a traditional sauna. An infrared sauna heats
the body with radiant heat, creating deep tissue
warming and profuse sweating. However, the air
surrounding you remains more comfortable, creating
relaxing stress-free environment where you can
listen to music, read a book, or just relax and
forget about the busyness of everyday life. Most
importantly, infrared saunas are completely safe
(far infrared light is the spectrum of light from
the sun that makes us feel warm), providing all
the benefits of natural sunlight without the harmful
effects of ultraviolet radiation.
While
far-infrared heat therapy is currently seeing
rapid growth in the medical and health industries,
far-infrared saunas are no longer just the domain
of rehabilitation clinics, expensive health clubs,
and elite spas. Progressive sauna manufacturers
have designed very effective, elegant, and affordable
far-infrared saunas for home use. Moreover, they
have been designed and manufactured in a manner
which promotes easy installation as a do-it-yourself
project.
